Beyonce’s New Video Holds A Strong Message

On Monday morning, Beyonce shared with us a music video for her song “BROWN SKIN GIRL”. The song is from her latest and most cultural album Black Is King. In this album, Queen Bey is no longer singing about being “Drunk in Love”. Instead her lyrics reflect more honest topics.

“BROWN SKIN GIRL” features SAINt JHN, WizKid, and even her adorable daughter Blue Ivy. The message of this visual goes further than just celebrating Black culture. The music video shows and honors just how beautiful all shades of brown skin actually are. The video presents gorgeous footage of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color coming together to commemorate their beauty.

The visual for “BROWN SKIN GIRL” is not your typical music video. It features precious footage of her and her daughter Blue Ivy. Beyonce even shows her younger daughter, who we never really get to see in the media. This work of absolute art is overflowing with love and acceptance. It includes well-known women such as Kelly Rowland (former vocalist in Destiny’s Child), Naomi Campbell, and Lupita Nyong’o. British-Nigerian artist Jenn Nkiru directed the video and made it clear that she wanted to represent all the shades of brown skin.

The setting of the video is very regal and old fashioned. The video plot line seems to be a celebration of some sort. The costume and design of everything are absolutely stunning. The execution is flawless. The video is utterly beautiful but the message is sends is even more alluring.
