After Will Smith‘s mom (April Parker Jones) worries about his safety, she sends him to live with Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv in the affluent neighborhood of Bel-Air. Will is an honor roll student and a gifted basketball player who’s not afraid to stand up for himself.
Amid this new life, he’s struggling with an old wound in his family. His mother and uncle Phil had told him that his father, Lou, abandoned the family when Will was a child. He’s also dealing with a pending suspension from school.
Bel Air Season 1 Recap
Jabari Banks stars as Will who has coming to terms with his father’s true status after learning it from his mom and uncle. He’s got to figure out a way to keep his family together while also balancing his personal growth and success. Will also deals with a relationship with his cousin Carlton (Olly Sholotan). While the two are close, he can’t get along with Carlton’s petty and self-centered ways.
As the series progresses, Will and Carlton grow closer to each other. While they are both pursuing their dreams there are still some differences that keep them apart. Will’s girlfriend, Lisa Wilkes (Simone Joy Jones), is also a strong presence. The beauty is a talented swimmer and Will’s love interest and Carlton’s ex-girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Carlton’s sister Ashley (Akira Akbar) is becoming more of a social butterfly. She is a lot like Will because she’s a strong Black woman who’s not afraid to talk about her feelings.
Bel Air Season 2 Cast
Alongside Akira and Coco, Season 2 of Bel Air on Peacock introduces new face Tatyana Ali to the cast. She’s playing a junior high English teacher who impacts Ashley, but she will not be the only character appearing in the show.
A few other familiar names have also appeared including Marlon Wayans, Will’s biological father who’s been incarcerated since childhood. Along with Jimmy Akingbola as Geoffrey, the head of the Banks family. Akingbola is a veteran of both The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Atlanta, so it’s likely that he’ll be able to bring his wit and charm to the role.
New Season
The new season will pick up with Will at a crossroads where he’ll be facing a new figure who challenges him and competes for control of his influence. He’ll juggle home life with the Banks family while rebuilding trust from last season.
The series will also see the return of its iconic characters, including Carlton and Hilary Banks, who are both getting married. Their relationship with each other and their parents will be explored as well.
