After spending the past two years making a name for himself with two genre-bending mixtapes and his hysterical performance as ‘Black Bieber’ on Donald Glover’s Atlanta, Austin Crute is using the new year to fully introduce himself and give the public a glimpse into the mind behind his art.
Crute’s new single, “Signs,” is an exploration of his relationship with faith and morality as he steps into his newfound independence as a young adult. The track seamlessly blends RnB, Pop, and Gospel stylings in a Jon Bellion-esque fashion, and is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unpacking the different layers to his colorful personality. “Signs” is only the first of many new singles he will drop in the coming months, with each new release “ultimately unlocking more and more keys as to what’s going on in [that mind of his].”
Originally from Atlanta, Austin is currently finishing up his time at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He broke into the entertainment industry at the age of 15 when he was a contestant on The Hub’s reality show, Majors and Minors, but he really left has mark after guest starring as “Black Justin Bieber” on Donald Glover’s Atlanta. With undeniable talent and an electrifying personality, Crute has continued to exhibit his artistry and establish himself as a force to be reckoned with, not only in the realms of film & television, but within the music industry as well. Drawing influence from his upbringing in the church – as well as from artists like Timbaland, Miley Cyrus, and Pharrell – Crute is redefining urban pop by drawing upon his animated idiosyncrasies and his experience growing up as a black Christian male in the pop culture epicenter that is Atlanta.
As a triple-threat (vocals, producing, and songwriting) artist, Crute has earned over 300K plays across Spotify and SoundCloud. His freshman and sophomore mixtapes, PLAY and Deutschland, showed that he truly has something different to offer the music industry. Moving forward, the year 2018 is about Austin Crute fully introducing himself and letting the world know that he is here to stay. Crute shares that, “Every month I’m going to release a single that shows a different faced of who I am, ultimately unlocking more and more keys as to what the hell’s going on in this mind of mine.” Crute’s moral reflection on “Signs” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unpacking the different layers to his colorful personality.
