The New Old School
Hip-Hop has been around for almost 50 years now. As the decade comes to a close, it is easy to see who has faded out of the spotlight, and who has solidified a legacy for themselves both in and outside of music. Here are some of the artists who have made an everlasting impact on Hip-Hop.
Travis Scott- Live Shows
Travis Scott is widely known for having some of the craziest live shows the world has ever seen. To top it all off, the energy from his music elevates the visual theatrics he puts on at his performances. With three solid solo albums and a label collaboration under his belt, we can only wait to see what the Astroworld artist has planned next, and how he is going to raise the bar for live performances.
Chief Keef- Drill Music and the Rise of Chicago
Chief Keef’s blow-up led to him creating a career for himself, and a pipeline from the music industry to Chicago. After rising to fame in 2012, rappers from all over Chicago started popping up and began making names for themselves. This put Chicago on the map as a major breeding ground for up and coming artists to emerge. And it also led to the rise of the signature Chicago sound known as Drill Music.
Nicki Minaj- Women in Hip Hop
Nicki will go down in history as one of the best MC’s to ever pick up a mic. But she also helped open the doors for other female artists to emerge. It may have taken some time, but there has been a quick rise to women in Hip-Hop. She may not have had a direct influence on these new artists, but she definitely helped pave the way for them.
