Alex Trebek may be leaving his job as the host of “Jeopardy!” for good.

In wake of Alex Trebek’s battle with pancreatic cancer, he may not be able to continue on as host. Reportedly, it is becoming too difficult for him to carry on his hosting duties. According to NBC News, Trebek is suffering from certain side effects as a result of the cancer, and he doesn’t want them to interfere with his health or career.

During an interview, he tells of his difficult decision.

“I’m hanging in. So we’re back on the chemo and we’ll see if the numbers go down. And if they do … they can’t keep doing it forever, of course.”

Trebek first announced his stage 4 cancer in March. Since then he’s been on a mission to regain his health. However, the chemotherapy isn’t going as planned.

However, he’s optimistic about his future and accepts the idea of death…if it were to happen.

“I’m not afraid of dying. I’ve lived a good life, a full life, and I’m nearing the end of that life … if it happens, why should I be afraid of that?”

He adds…

“One thing they’re not going to say at my funeral, as a part of a eulogy, is ‘He was taken from us too soon.”

Trebek is 79-years-old. He’s been a host of “Jeopardy!” for 36 seasons.
