Kanye West Sues Walmart Over Knockoff Yeezy Foam Runner

Kanye West is taking legal action against Walmart for selling a counterfeit version of his foam shoe.The Yeezy slides, which were released last year with a price tag of $75, were initially compared unfavorably to Crocs. Nevertheless, they “instantly” sold out, and now sell for upwards of three times that on the secondary market, according to the suit.

The knockoffs on Walmart’s site, meanwhile, have been retailing for between $21.99 and $33.99 a pair. While Yeezy has sent Walmart legal warnings demanding that it yank the ripoff sneakers from its site, it has thus far failed to do so, according to the suit.

TMZ says West’s team is seeking “major damages.” In response, Walmart issued a statement to the outlet clarifying that the offending products are not its own and are sold by third-party vendors. “We are taking these allegations seriously and are currently reviewing the claim. Once we have received the complaint, we will respond accordingly in court.”

This is the latest legal dispute involving Yeezy and Walmart. In April, the retail giant challenged a trademark filing for the Yeezy LLC logo, saying it looks too similar to Walmart’s 13-year-old sun logo. Walmart is seeking to block it by arguing that it would create a misleading association between the two brands.
