New Hip-Hop And R&B Artists to Bump
1. Symba
Symba, the underrated Bay-area rapper always packs serious social commentary with lyrics like “I done got rich and turned into my big homie!” His music video and lyrics for “Serve” are particularly powerful, and he’s pretty good at freestyling.
2. Raiche
New artist Raiche is an R&B and hip-hop fusion of singing and rapping. Raiche is heating up! In May, she performed on Kelly Clarkson’s Show. Her music videos are grounded in down-to-earth sweetness like hanging laundry outside to dry.
3. Vedo
Vedo’s remake of Jagged Edge’s Let’s Get Married captures the throw-back encouragement that he as a new artist contains. Featured track “You Got It” off of Vedo’s 2020 album, For You is like a reassuring hug from your high school boyfriend.
4. J.I., the Prince of N.Y.
Simply known as J.I., the young rapper hails from Brooklyn, NY. J.I. dropped Hood Life Crisis Vol. 1 in 2019 and followed it up with Vol. 2 later that year. His flirty song “Need Me” samples Kevin Lyttle’s “Turn Me On”. “…I told you to call me/When you need me/Reach out when you need me…Let me be there for you/Girl, don’t worry about anyone else/You drive me wild/You excite me, excite me…”
5. Ayanis, ATL’s R&B Princess
Ayanis has already collaborated with Wiz Khalifa. Her R&B tracks are next level free spirited. Billboard’s 15 Hip-Hop & R&B Artists to Watch in 2021 said, “Ayanis took dismissing scrubs to the next level in 2020 with “Lil Boi (Big Talk).” She boasts lyrics like “I’m talkin’ that big talk/Big boy, big talk/If you ain’t no big boss, then what you here for?”
6. Yung Bleu
Yung Bleu began making waves when his 2020 single “You’re Mine’s Still” was remixed by Drake. In 2021, Big Sean was featured on Yung Bleu’s song “Way More Close (Stuck In A Box)”.
These tunes were enjoyable! I really liked Symba’s free stylin’.
No one else can do “Let’s Get Married” like Jagged Edge can… just sayin’
