This week we celebrate the 20 year anniversary of one of the most iconic hip-hop movies to be released called “Belly”. The movie portrays two street hustlers, dealing with the ups and downs of the street game.
Hype Williams was the director of the highly acclaimed movie, which had the main cast of DMX, Nas, and T-Boz. During the annual ComplexCon event, Williams provided some details surrounding the movie that many people didn’t know at the time.
Hype sent the crowd into shock when he advised that if DMX did not accept the role as Tommy Bundy, that Jay-Z was sure to be the next option.

“Back in time remember Hov didn’t pop yet. He wasn’t JAY-Z, he was Jay-Z, and if you know him, Hov is a real hustler,” Williams explained. “He comes from a real place. We were working with Def Jam and it was logical for it to be him.”
He gave further insight stating that all the actors were smoking real weed throughout the scenes. In addition that all the houses and cars belonged to the artist on the set in real life.
In the movie, Tommy (DMX) main chick claims that she is onto his relationship with a girl by the name of Kesha. Tommy Bundy denies the relationship and causes a hot steamy sex scene.
